This dramatic rock formation dominates the drive up to Dunsmuir,
California.
One cannot stop looking at the majestic
prescence that they display,
rising to
6,200 feet.
The prominent Castle Dome is well known granite projection created
in the
Jurassic Period.
This is a favorite tourist stop and campground.
Many try to
climb its heights.
I was lucky to have
lived close by and to
be able to drive
around the roads surrounding them,
and to be able to
catch awesome
photographs.
There is much more infromation here, on Wikipedia about the geology,
history
and the special
flowers found here.
One is the Castle Crags Bellflower, and the
other is
a member of the
rose
family, named Castle Crags ivesia. |
